Mickley Mill

Project Brief: The Mickley Hydro Scheme Ltd were looking to install an archimedes screw into an existing mill race to generate power to be exported to the National Grid as an investment.

Project Summary:

The existing mill race had to be repaired and dammed both up and down stream to allow a civil package of work to be undertaken to complete the bases upon which the archimedes screw and channels in which the associated fish/eel passes would eventually be installed.

The archimedes screw was then craned into position and commissioned by the main contractor. A grid connection was established to allow the power generated to be exported and the associated tariff be claimed by the Client.

Currently the project is anticipated to have a return on investment of within 5 years and the tariff signed up to will be eligible for a further 15 years.
